30-year publishing veteran Gary Kuris
joins Greenwood Publishing Group
as Vice President, Editorial

To accelerate its strategic transformation, Greenwood Publishing Group has appointed Gary Kuris, a thirty-year publishing veteran with a highly-acclaimed ability to oversee quality, as Vice President, Editorial.

Wayne Smith, President of Greenwood Publishing Group says, "Gary Kuris is one of the few editorial professionals with direct hands-on experience with all of Greenwood's key product areas – which includes everything from academic monographs and academic reference books to school and public library reference books.  His tenures at both Garland and ABC-CLIO have revealed him to be a proven performer with a terrific track record in both product development and product acquisition.  He's sure to be a key player as we go forward in launching the 'new Greenwood.'"

In addition to being known for reading reference books at bedtime and on vacation, Kuris is also widely-associated with his professional motto, "You can't put anything over on librarians."  About his new appointment Kuris remarks, "I'm very pleased to join Greenwood, which has long been too modest of a company.  Over the decades it's been growing quietly, but vigorously and now Greenwood's list is really quite remarkable.  I think it's time to drop the 'quietly,' to become a little less modest.  It's time to let people know what a powerhouse Greenwood really is." 

"One of my main functions will be managing the growth of our imprints to enhance their effectiveness without sacrificing the high quality scholarship long relied upon by librarians," says Kuris.  "Librarians, after all, are still our only business."  He adds, "Being very market driven, I'm also planning to work closely with Linda May, Greenwood's Vice President of Marketing, in order to help maximize sales."

Prior to coming on board with Greenwood, Kuris served four years as the Editorial Director for ABC-CLIO's Book Division.  One of his key achievements in that position was initiating a development department to oversee quality.  Before that, Kuris worked fourteen years as Senior Acquisitions Editor and Vice President of Garland Publishing.  During his tenure there, he developed an award-winning encyclopedia list.  Kuris was also Senior Editor at Scarecrow Press and Assistant Editor at H.W. Wilson Company.
