winner of a Bronze Curriculum Web Site award!

Out of the 600 web sites competing for Curriculum Administrator's 2nd Annual Curriculum Web Awards, Disney Educational Productions' Edu-Station web site - www.disney.go.com/educational was named a Bronze Award winner!

Curriculum Administrator's senior editor Odvard Egil Dyrli announced the awards in the February, 2000 issue, writing, "CA started its online curriculum awards in 1999 to help educators sort through the countless Web sites offering free K-12 curriculum options." Four criteria were used by the judges in selecting the award winners:

•  appropriateness of the content
•  instructional design
•  quality of the interaction with the learner
•  the creative use of online technologies.

Curriculum Administrator selected the Disney Educational Productions' lively Edu-station Web site for a Bronze Award because it offers teachers and students "a variety of multimedia features, including CyberLesson Plans on themes such as Native American story telling, stargazing, and food traditions; teacher tested sites and ideas in various content areas; a book nook; and an educator events calendar.  The site also links to a great number of related activity sites such as games, fun for families and stories, as well as educational resources including Homework Helper and Computer Corner."

Edu-Station also provides educators, parents, and students with smart Internet safety tips, features on schools that are doing great work, and themed classroom activities with video and Internet support in the site's Video Corner.

Catherine Wood, Marketing Manager for Disney Education Productions is pleased Edu-Station is recognized along with the other distinguished award winners.  "It's wonderful to see so many other companies also investing heavily in the strategic value of the education market through multi-curriculum web sites."

Wood adds, "Disney Educational Productions designed Edu-Station to provide educators and parents with an editorial focus on curriculum materials for teachers, including classroom activities using a variety of media, cyber lesson plans, worksheets, fun ideas and more.  We appreciate the award for recognizing our overall success."   The other impressive award winners are:

Gold Awards - AT&T Learning Network, Discovery Channel School, Lightspan.com, National Geographic.com, New York Times Learning Network, and Thinkquest Internet Challenge.

Silver Awards -  Crayola Art Education, Bonus.com, Classroom connect, Harcourt Learning Site, Education Place from Houghton Mifflin, PBS TeacherSource, and Scholastic.com.

Bronze Awards -  Copernicus Education Gateway, Education World, Educast from Knowledge Adventure, MaMaMedia.com, and Pitsco's Ask An Expert.

Seven school-created sites and seven subject-area sites from various organizations were also given awards.

"Every winner of the Curriculum Administrator's 2nd Annual Curriculum Web Awards is helping guide and strengthen the marriage between education and technology in the 21st century," says Wood.
